As announced in my previous post, I went the next day (April 22nd) to PHPSeminar.NL, organized by Ibuidlings (yes Ivo and Skoop, I *can* spell it correctly, I just don't want to :P) and Sogeti. Not everything went as smooth as I wanted, especially with the Public Transport, which caused me to drop in just before the second-last talk ended.
I don't know how people manage to take a bus on Utrecht Central Station, but all the busses I could take where nowhere to be found, didn't leave from this station according to Information Personnel (though the busses they recommended where nowhere to be found either), or didn't exist at all. Finally I found a bus that at least drove in the right direction, and after some convincing to the driver, even dropped me off right in front of the Hotel where the seminar was helt. As mentioned, just in time to hear the second last talk finish, so my evening started with a 15 minute break. After saying hi to Cal and Ivo, I found Skoop, who introduced me to Dynom (which was a pleasure). After a smoke, we went back inside for the highlight of the evening: Cal Evans' talk.
Boy was that fun. All developers were promoted to gardners on the spot, and he entertained the crowd with fun anecdotes of his past, alternating with a random "FoxPro Rulez!!" shout (see picture, taken by Tom Schenkenberg - iBuildings). At least Skoop and I had lots of fun, though I think the whole crowd enjoyed it, and I actually learned a thing or two. Afterwards I hung out with Cal and the usual crowd, looking forward to the upcoming ZendCon '08, afterwhich Dynom drove me to the train station (you gotta love such a friendly community, I do!). After a smooth train ride home, this time remembering my bike, I actually got home before midnight, and had some time to eveluate yet another succesfull day. I can't wait for DPC and ZendCon'08. Boy, am I going to have lots of fun, or what :P Cal promised me that he was 'only' the 'warm-up act', and Matthew will be the real rockstar, so when I meet them both at ZendCon'08, it's going to be one hell of a ride!
