And while the commercials play by, you start thinking that you’d rather pay more for a subscription, and enjoy your shows without those breaks, then have to watch the same boring commercials, over and over again, on the most inconvenient times. Stop your thinking! There is a great plus side of commercials!
Not only give commercials you the chance to refill your drinks, get the pizza out of the oven, or go for a quick toilet break, there is a way bigger plus side. Those annoying commercials make sure you can see what you want to see. No, really!
Advertisers want to show their commercials to as much people as possible. Of course, the more people that see the commercial, the cheaper the commercial actually is. It’s like cost-per-click on the net, but then on TV. So the advertisers rather buy time for a popular, intensively watched show, then for some show nobody watches anyway.
If TV networks would implement a more expensive package, that would allow you to watch the same content, but without the commercials, they would get their money either way. No matter what they would air, the money would already be cashed. Thanks to advertisers, TV networks have to make sure the content they air attracts as many viewers as possible. Because more viewers, brings in more money from advertisers. So, generally spoken, they will air what you like, to make sure they can attract advertisers, which bring in money. If it weren’t for advertisers, you would be watching some re-re-re-re-re-re-re-run of The A-Team (not that it’s a bad show, but count the ‘re-‘s’), while The Indianapolis Colts are winning the SuperBowl XLI…
If you keep this in mind when the next commercial break starts, it will be a bit more bearable.
